Origami and Beyond Inspired Furniture
Mansi Mehta designed her new and completely original furniture
range ‘Origami and Beyond’. Designing products, which are
multi-functional, and aesthetically pleasing yet being unusual in their use of
materials, has always been the driving philosophy for Mansi.
‘Origami and Beyond’ uses the principles of Origami or the Japanese art of folding paper, as the underlying
inspiration of the furniture pieces which include coffee tables, consoles,
pouffees, chairs, side tables and more. They imitate the folds of paper
of Origami, in that wood, acrylic, metal or industrial materials fold like
paper to form their contours. The processes Mansi uses to create her
beautifully simple and sparse forms are actually the complex part of her
work.
‘Simplexity’, evoking ideas of perfect geometrical form
implemented in efficient and practical ways is the result. In many ways, the
Origami collection is an apt metaphor for Mansi's work with the ideas of clean
paper lines and innovative design concepts.
